Cooking Experiences

The weekly culinary experiences for children Toddler – Kindergarten are planned to enhance all areas of our curriculum. Recipes are designed around our core social studies projects, while encompassing an array of science, math, and language skills. Children work with different ingredients each week and often incorporate the “farm to table” premise, using herbs and vegetables from the school garden. At the youngest of ages, cooking experiences offer an opportunity to work on fine motor skills and engage in sensorial experiences. As the children move through the older programs, the culinary experience may be accompanied by a cultural study of the recipe origin or tradition and will include lessons in health and nutrition, reading recipes, measuring, vocabulary, list making and following steps in a process.
