Gardening

Appreciation for nature and it resources are central to our curriculum. Much of what happens at the Children’s Studio is inspired by the natural cycles of the seasons, and we know the positive effects of children’s gardening can last a lifetime. Each spring we listen to the children share their ideas about how we can all enjoy our garden. These discussions lead us to thinking about some ways in which we can contribute to keeping our patch of earth as optimal as possible. With some goals in mind, the children and families begin to gather the materials and tools needed for the garden project and head to the neighborhood nursery to choose the perfect seeds for planting. The children work together in small multi-age groups, transforming the garden into a place for learning. Each group takes responsibility for watering and weeding as well as recording their observations through photos, drawings and descriptions.
